Knowing Our Neighbors: Enumclaw, WA
0The neighbors live on a plateau formed by a lava flow…
Not fair, right?
Well, it’s true. The Enumclaw Plateau was formed by a volcanic mudflow from Mt. Rainier about 5700 years ago.
This post is about getting to know Maple Valley’s neighbors. Not immediate neighbors, but the ones you don’t hear about too often, which is sad because they’re pretty cool.
The City of Enumclaw: “Where The Adventure Begins”
That’s their motto, and to be fair, they are right in the shadow of Mt. Rainier. And they have one of the coolest events in King County:
Annual Pacific Northwest Scottish Highland Games
If you’ve never been, go!
They have big claymore swords and dancing and bagpipes – who doesn’t love bagpipes? Okay, a lot of people, but they’re still rare and interesting.
There’s also this game where they carry gigantic poles (25 feet tall or something like that) while the poles are completely vertical. They have try to toss it forward so it flips over itself.
Oh yeah, it’s called a Caber Toss:
