Maple Valley’s Own Local News Sources
0Yeah, we read the Seattle Times for the big stories. And for the gigantic stories, we turn to the Wall Street Journal or New York Times – maybe even BBC.
But when it comes to fostering a sense of familiarity and community, nothing beats a local news source.
Here is our mash-up of local newspapers and online news sources that cover Maple Valley. Some are devoted to Maple Valley, others spread themselves between a couple other cities.
Maple Valley Reporter
Technically the “Covington and Maple Valley Reporter” – but their URL is maplevalleyreporter.com, so we’re picking that one!
The Maple Valley Reporter is the most extensive and official news source in Maple Valley. You should be able to find just about everything here. With a staff of five, they manage to keep up-to-date on all stories – big and small.
We’re not sure when they were founded, but they look like they’ve been around for a while.
Voice of the Valley
“Your Community Newspaper for Over 43 Years!”
We really like Voice of the Valley. While they may not have the expansive coverage of the three-city Maple Valley Reporter, they have that small, personal feel – as if each article was told to you by your favorite grandparent. A “hip”, up-to-date grandparent, because they don’t miss a beat.
Currently, they circulate 26,000 papers a week, which is actually more than the population of Maple Valley. Their about page traces the history of the Voice of the Valley to 1969.
Maple Valley Post
“Community News for Maple Valley, Washington”
The Maple Valley Post is a great local resource. It was founded by Casey Combs Henry, a former Associated Press reporter, as an online newspaper.
Its goal was to be a comprehensive community news source for the area. But, due to an unfortunate lack of funding, the Maple Valley Post has scaled back to focus on a few topics – particularly ones related to Tahoma School District Schools. They remain a great resource despite the narrower scope.
City of Maple Valley Website
The site isn’t the most attractive of places to visit on the web, but it does provide some great information. We often link to the site with upcoming events in the area.
If you’re hoping to stay up-to-date on a wide array of different topics in Maple Valley, particularly legal and political ones, the City of Maple Valley newsletter is the way to go.
