Few places in the Pacific Northwest compare with its myriad community programs, successful schools, support of the arts and environment, and stable economy. A quick look at Maple Valley news and news from around the area demonstrates this. And even if there are a few dark spots in recent events, the community responds with the appropriate desire to continue improving whatever is within its power to improve.
Two Maple Valley Students Suspended for Wearing The Confederate Flag
One recent unfortunate event was the necessary suspension of two Tahoma school district students who sported the Confederate flag. One of the students told KOMO that they were sporting Southern pride, which they chose to do after seeing another student show up to school with a gay pride flag. The school responded in the interest of creating a safe environment for its students.
Maple Valley Library Continues Its Fantastic Community Events
Looking for something to do with your kids? Maple Valley Library offers Family Story Time November 4 and 18 for kids 3 to 7 (with an adult). The event begins at 7pm.
Maple Valley Library is also hosting an Evening Book Group on Tuesdays – currently they are reading Girls in White Dresses by Jennifer Close.

Maple Valley Youth Coach Gets Sentence of 25 Years
Events such as this are tragic. U.S. Attorney Jenny A. Durkan put it right when she said, “This is a heart-wrenching betrayal of trust of the victims and the community.” Specifically, a Maple Valley youth coach was sentenced to 25 years in prison and a lifetime of supervised release for possessing and purchasing child pornography. Maple Valley (and its Realtors) Support Tahoma School District Bond
In other Maple Valley news, Maple Valley’s famed schools have been overcrowded for a while, and the situation is not improving. A bond has been proposed – it will show up on the November 5 ballot – to muster up $195 million to renovate and expand Tahoma School District schools. Maple Valley realtors voiced their support recently. In order to pass, the measure requires a 60% vote with a minimum turnout of 8192 voters.
Maple Valley Community Center Is Closing Down Programs
The Greater Maple Valley Community Center has had a rough time getting funding for their Children and Family programs. Toddler Time – a particular community favorite – will have to disappear. If you are interested in supporting this program and keeping it from closing, visit this Facebook page.
