Why Maple Valley is One of the Fastest Growing Cities in King County [Video]
0In a 2013 interview with Sabrina Register of Comcast Newsmakers, former Maple Valley Mayor Noel Gerken (now Maple Valley city council member) discusses why Maple Valley is one of the fastest growing cities in King County, and even Washington State.
The conversations covers the path to about 24000 residents – double the number of residents in Maple Valley 15 years ago.
Why Maple Valley?
Noel cites Maple Valley’s recognition for family-friendly community and resources as the primary cause for this remarkable growth spurt. Noel mentions how Businessweek, FamilyCircle, and NerdWallet have all appraised Maple Valley as one of the best places to raise a family, not only in Washington state, but in the entire country.
For clear examples of Maple Valley’s appeal to families, Noel cites the Tahoma School District, both in its devotion to sustainability and in its educational success. He also references the large number of open spaces and recreational areas, as well as the low crime rate, both of which are valuable to families.
Looking ahead, Noel discusses plans for Maple Valley to invite more businesses to plant roots in Maple Valley, in an effort to move away from what he calls a “bedroom community” and into a more fully formed economy.
